Alvin Johnson

Alvin Clair Johnson passed away at the age of 94 on the 27th of June 2022 at Abundant Blessings in Denver, Colorado. He was born on November 25th 1927 in Newark, Illinois, to Alvin and Bertina (Larson) Johnson and graduated from Newark High School in 1942. At the age of 5, Alvin received an award for heroism after saving his brother from falling down a well.

Alvin joined the Army Air Corp in 1944, served in both WW2 and the Korean War, achieving the rank of Sergeant before he was honorably discharged in 1953.  After his military service, he worked for Pacific Intermountain Express as a truck driver where he drove for 42 years. By the time he retired in 1995, he had driven over 4 million miles without an accident.

Alvin married Emma Mae Burbank (Clem) in 1957 in Plano, Illinois. They were happily married for 64 years and raised 4 wonderful children together. He was a proud member of many organizations including: the Masonic Lodge, York Rite, Scottish Rite, Shrine and American Legion. When he wasn’t on the road or attending Lodge meetings, Alvin enjoyed recreational travel, learning to fly, watching the Denver Broncos, and spending time with his family. He was a gregarious man who could strike up a conversation with anyone and always had room for a little humor.

Alvin was preceded in death by his wife Emma, father Alvin, mother Bertina, brother Donald, sister Beverly and two great grandchildren, Jack and Samantha Schichtel.

Alvin is survived by his daughter Judith Ann (Naker) Bishop of Highlands Ranch, CO, his sons Rodney Naker of Rosharon, TX, Russell Johnson of Seattle, WA, and Scott Johnson of Denver, CO; his grandchildren; Heather (Simms) Schichtel, Mark Naker, Ryan Simms, Keith Naker, Stefani Johnson, Jennifer Johnson, Joshua Johnson; his great-grandchildren Aubrey Naker, Adelaide Naker, Genevieve Naker, Reese Simms, Luca Simms, and Beck Simms.

A memorial service will be held at Horan & McConaty, 5303 E. County Line Rd, Centennial, CO  80122 at 11:00 am July 25th, 2022. Burial will follow at Fort Logan National Cemetery at 1:15 pm.
