Amy Stearns Goodell, 92, elementary school teacher, actress and lifelong drama enthusiast, died February 29 in Denver. She was born on May 4, 1923 in Denver, the second of four daughters of Robert and Amy Stearns. Her father later served as president of the University of Colorado from 1939 to 1953. She graduated from Scripps College in Claremont, California, and acted in college theater productions in Colorado and California. She married Dick Goodell and lived in Vermont before they divorced. Amy was an outstanding teacher and taught fifth grade in Berkeley, California, public schools for decades. She also taught elementary students in London for a year in the early 1960s and taught theater during summer months at the Perry-Mansfield performing arts school in Steamboat Springs. She frequently hosted family members at her hillside Berkeley home and took extended summer trips with friends in her VW bug. She took several memorable international trips, including to Russia and Japan. Amy moved back to Denver in the early 2000s and had lived at the Clermont Park retirement home for about a decade. She appeared in a production of ""Guys and Dolls"" at Clermont at the age of 92. She was preceded in death by sisters Marion White and Judith Caughey. She is survived by sister Barbara Wootten of Denver, a niece, seven nephews, numerous great-nieces and great-nephews and one great-great niece. A memorial service is scheduled at 3:30 pm on Wednesday, March 23 in the Fellowship Hall at Clermont Park Retirement Community, 2479 South Clermont Street, Denver.
