Ancelmo 'Al' Gustavo Atencio

December 21, 1931 — August 21, 2012

Ancelmo (Al) Atencio entered into eternal peace on 8/21/2012 after a 3 year battle with intestinal stomach problems, surrounded by his wife & family. He was born 12/21/1931 to Frank & Bersabe Atencio, Los Pinos, NM. Al entered the U.S. Army in 1951 and served in both Korean & Vietnam Wars. After serving 20 years in the Army Infantry, he retired having been awarded 2 Combat Infantry Badges, 2 Purple Hearts & a Bronze Star. Upon his retirement from the Army he worked for Gates Rubber Company and then went to work for the U.S. Dept. of Labor where, after 20 years, he retired in 1996. Al was an avid Coca-Cola collector. He loved to entertain family & friends and was a great host. He is survived by wife Kathy; daughter Wanda Jo Spicher; grandsons, Justin Spicher & Nicholas Spicher; great-grandson Jayden Spicher; brother, Bonnie Atencio; and numerous nieces & nephews. There will be a Visitation Tuesday, August 28, 2012 from 4:00-7:00pm with Recitation of the Rosary following at 7:00pm at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 3101 South Wadsworth Boulevard, Lakewood, Colorado 80227. Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, August 29, 2012, 10:00am Saint Jude Catholic Church, 9405 West Florida Avenue, Lakewood, Colorado 80235. Interment to follow at Fort Logan National Cemetery with full Military Honors, 3698 South Sheridan Boulevard, Denver, Colorado 80235. Al will surely be missed by his wife & the many lives he touched.
