Andy Gibbs, age 84, died peacefully at Shalom Park after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
He was the son (along with six siblings) of Theron and Grace Gibbs.
Andy considered himself one lucky guy…meeting Kate Ketchum and working for “Big Brown” (UPS.) He grew up in Upstate New York. After earning a degree in Physical Education from Cortland State College, and teaching a few years in High School, he then decided to work for UPS in the summers. In 1973 Andy was transferred to Denver with UPS. Serving as Team Manager, he oversaw the development of UPS in the Pacific Rim and Central America. Andy also worked as Employee Relations Manager and was known as the “People’s Guy” for always being fair.
Andy was involved in several community projects: Angel Heart, Red Cross, Bootstraps and Blessings, Guest Relations with the Rockies, Habitat for Humanity, and volunteering in Mrs. Gibbs’ First Grade Class.
Andy shared his hobbies and interests with family and friends: fly fishing, camping, gardening, traveling, and the love of a golden lab named Murphy. Andy thoroughly enjoyed playing Yahtzee in his later years. He will be remembered as a loving husband, close friend to many, and for his tenacity, generosity, attitude with gratitude, compassion, and for being an inspiration to others.
Andy is survived by his wife, Kate; sons Marcus (Paula), David (Tara); and four grandsons, Owen, Colin, William, and Declan.
