Andrew ""Andy"" Schroeder

Everyone loved to see Andy coming because he always had a funny story or a joke to tell to bring a smile. A long-time Heather Gardens neighbor, he would walk to his job at the King Soopers at Regatta Plaza in all weather to be on time as a Courtesy Clerk, helping customers bag up their groceries and wrangling buggies from the parking lot, even in a blizzard or in the blazing summer sun. ""These young kids don't want to do the work, but I'm still here because they know I will show up and do whatever needs to be done!"" So true. He knew many regular customers by their first names and everyone knew Andy.

He was a regular at two churches, both the Heritage Christian Center and he was a Food Bank volunteer at the Southeast Church of Christ on Yale, just a short walk east of Heather Gardens.

After 15 years at store #39 and approaching retirement age, his departure in Sept. 2018 was prompted by some chest pains and then a new heart valve. He collected his Union Pension and his Social Security check and enjoyed retirement and visiting with his friends and neighbors at the HG clubhouse. This past December again, chest pains put him into the hospital and after a few procedures, he was just unable to bounce back. He did see his favorites, the Kansas City Chiefs win the Super Bowl Sunday and was texting friends early Monday morning February 3, but a sudden heart attack took him down.

Saturday, May 16th 11:00am, Southeast Church of Christ will host a brief service and a Celebration of Life Barbecue (Andy’s request). All friends are invited to come and share your favorite “Andy Stories” with each other. Canned or package (or financial) donations to their Food Bank are invited in Andy’s memory. He was a volunteer and also an appreciative recipient of their good work feeding those in need. Sympathy cards may also be sent here to be held for his family.
