Angelo R. Vendegna

Angelo R. Vendegna November 15, 1936 ~ July 29, 2010 Angelo was born in Denver and grew up on the family truck farm on North Sheridan in Arvada. He attended elementary school in Arvada and graduated from Arvada High School in 1955. Angelo and Carol were married at the Shrine of Saint Anne Catholic Church in Arvada, January 26, 1957. A son, Michael John was born in 1958, a daughter, Lisa Ann in 1964. Adrianne Marie, born in 1968 completed the family except for many, very much loved dogs and cats. Growing up on a working farm, Angelo learned to drive a tractor at a very young age. On the farm, everyone helped plant and harvest vegetables distributed to Safeway stores. After his father sold the farm, Angelo worked at a grocery store, East Jefferson Meat Market and Maplies Electric (generators and regulators). In 1960 Angelo's father decided to buy a liquor store, Angelo joined his father in the managing of the business from 1960 to 1980. He then took a position with the AFPD in maintenance. He said it was the best job he ever had! He worked for the AFPD for 20 years. Angelo was voted on as a Volunteer fireman for AVFD July 5, 1971. Angelo served at Station #2 and #6 as Lieutenant, Captain and Assistant Fire Chief. During his 20 years as a volunteer, Angelo became well known for his spaghetti dinners, which he and his comrades at station 6 would cook up for parties and other special occasions. After retirement from the district, and his service as a volunteer fireman he and Carol created a ""cottage industry"" bird house business. The bird houses were designed and built by Angelo, painted and decorated by Carol, and sold to many bird supply stores in Denver and across the state of Colorado. Angelo loved life, loved his family, friends and the Arvada Fire Department. Angelo and Carol have six Grandchildren, Nicholas, Elizabeth, Christian, Alexander, Rachel, and Annie Rose. Visitation will be held Sunday, August 8, 2010, from 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM. Recitation of the Rosary will follow at 5:00PM, both will be held at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 3020 Federal Boulevard, Denver, Colorado. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, August 9, 2010, 11:00 AM, Shrine of St. Anne Catholic Church, 7555 Grant Place, Arvada, Colorado.
