Anita J. Wolf â Anita died in Swedish Hospital on September 11, 2008 from complications related to emergency hip surgery. She turned 82 on the day of her surgery. Following the death of her husband, Harold, on April 8th of this year, Anita had recently moved from her home in Bear Valley to an assisted living environment at Morningstar. She was beginning to enjoy her new home, making friends and even beginning to paint again. Anita was born in Hillrose, Colorado on August 29, 1926 to Joseph and Florence Howell. The family lived on a farm in Hillrose where one of Anita's fondest memories was of her horse, Jim. Anita had two brothers, Al and Dean, and the family moved to Ft. Morgan to live. Anita was an avid tennis player. It is on the tennis courts of Ft. Morgan that she and Harold became a couple. Harold would walk across town after high school classes to meet Anita every day possible for several games of tennis. Their joint love of tennis stayed with them throughout their lives, both as a doubles team and individually as singles competitors. Anita graduated from Colorado Women's College in 1946 with her major in journalism. She was on the staff of the college newspaper and the yearbook. Anita returned to Ft. Morgan after college and worked for the local newspaper, the Ft. Morgan Times, as the Society Editor. Anita and Harold were married on November 25, 1947 and moved to Denver to begin their married life. They had 4 children, Dana, Andy, Mitch and Steve. Anita became a stay at home Mom. In addition to all the usual mothering tasks related to this many active children, she continued her love of education by finding new learning opportunities for her artistic talents. She found personal enjoyment in gardening, sewing, needlecrafts, and painting. Anita was an accomplished seamstress at the tailoring level, creating and designing tennis wear in addition to clothes for her daughter and grandchildren. She was always up on the ""in"" styles and created many ""knock offs"" long before the term was coined. Her gardening knowledge and skills created a beautiful back yard that she loved so much. She passed her love of digging in the dirt along to several of her children and her grandchildren. She has continued the Howell family legacy of cultivating many types of Iris that are passed from generation to generation. Anita began painting as a new challenge. She loved painting landscape scenes, southwestern art, and painted many one of a kind holiday ornaments sold at craft fairs and given to her family. These items will be especially treasured now that she is gone. Anita had 5 grandchildren -- Jeff and Michael Pepper; and Lauren, Baylee and McKenna Wolfe. She also had two great grandchildren, Ashley and Tyler Pepper. Harold and Anita lived in the Bear Valley community for 40 years. Anita had established relationships with many of her long-term neighbors. She also had a special affinity for their pets, especially Diesel, who lived behind her. Anita missed Harold very much after his death. She commented recently that she would turn around and look to him to discuss something or to provide advice and that ""he wasn't there"". They would have been married 60 years in November. Anita left specific instructions for her family regarding her death. She requested that there be ""no services of any kind"". Her family will honor her request with love. She will be buried at Golden Cemetery with Harold. The family requests your memories and life stories about Anita through www.HoranCares.com. Memorial donations in her name may be made to National Jewish Hospital, 1400 Jackson Street, Denver, CO 80206 or at www.nationaljewish.org. Anita Joyce Wolf, 82, of Denver.
