Ann Katherine Christy, née Stewart died unexpectedly at Amberwood Court Rehabilitation Center on Monday June 24th, 2019 in Denver, Colorado at the age of 67.
Ann is survived by her husband, Roger ""Lee"" Christy, her son Jason Christy, brothers Bob and Todd Stewart, Aunt Pat Von Spreecken, cousins Wendy Von Speecken and Terry Vaske, nieces Julie, Heather, and Winn Stewart, nephew Jared Stewart, and great nieces Kaylee Stewart and Danka Mirkovic.
Ann was born on September 11th, 1951 in Washington, Iowa to James and Wynona Stewart. She graduated from South Tama High School in 1969, Arizona State University in 1977 with a B.A. in Family Consumer Economics, the University of Colorado- Denver in 1987 with her teaching certificate, the University of Colorado- Denver in 1998 with a Master's in Educational Administration, and finally from the University of Denver in 2009 with her PhD in Educational Leadership with honors. She married Roger ""Lee"" Christy in 1980 and their son Jason Christy was born 4 years later.
Ann was an accomplished and passionate teacher and administrator. She worked for Denver Public Schools for 26 years. She taught at all levels of elementary education, served as an assistant principal at Maxwell Elementary School, was the principal at Edison Elementary School for 9 years and finished her career in 2013 as the Student Growth Administrator for the district. Ann served for 2 years as the President of the Denver Elementary Principal's Association. She was also the President for the Colorado Association of Elementary School Principals. Ann was a member of many educational groups including DASA, CASE, NAESP, ASCD, PEO and CAESP. She was also an active and dedicated member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church and served as President of the Women of St. Luke's Parish, Vice President of Daughters of the King, and was a vestry member of the parish.
A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, July 5th at 2 p.m. at St. Luke's Episcopal Church (1270 Poplar Street Denver, CO 80220) with a reception to follow. Reverend Sierra Reyes will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Ann's life.
