Ann left us on Wednesday, April 7, at the age of 81. She passed peacefully at home in Aurora, CO, surrounded and cared for by her loved ones, after bravely fighting cancer for the last 22 months.
She was born in 1939 in Wisbech, England to Leonard and Elizabeth Awbery. Her childhood was marked by idyllic English countryside, but also World War II bombing raids and the rebuilding after the war. In 1959, while training to become a nurse, she met her future husband (an American serviceman) at a USAF NCO dance and they married in 1960.
Shortly thereafter, they returned to the US and were stationed in Colorado, Kansas, Florida and Oregon, their 3 daughters being born during this period. They were then stationed overseas in Germany for 4 years. In 1968 she became an American citizen, one of the highlights of her life. She proudly displayed and honored the American flag at every opportunity the rest of her days.
Upon returning to the States in 1972, she returned to the workforce at the same Aurora Public School her children attended. Later, she worked 29 years in the healthcare sector in various roles. She retired in 2001 to travel and enjoy being Grandma.
Her interests included family, gardening, animals, baseball, traveling and enjoying the outdoors, especially the ocean. She and Dannie loved and visited Florida many times a year, heading to Destin, Sanibel, and Orlando for a Disney adventure! She had a genuine love for meeting people and a knack for striking up conversations everywhere.
Ann is survived by her husband of 60 years, Dannie of Aurora, CO; brother, Frank Awbery of Wisbech, England; daughters Tina Hogeman (Gary Packard), Nicola Ingalls (Troy), Michelle Johnson; and grandchildren Sarah and Stephen Hogeman, all of the Denver Metro area.
Her best times were spent with family and friends and we will forever miss her…….
