Ann Marie Novotny

May 11, 1927 — February 25, 2016

Born May of 1927 to Ernest G. Burgi and Anna E. Classen, Ann started life in a small town on the plains. Her mother was originally an Orphan Train child and died when Ann was very young. Ernest then married Maude Withee and Ann gained step-siblings Harold and Betty, and later half sister Rose. She grew up in Yankton, SD where she graduated from high school in 1945. She then went to Sioux City with friends to find work. In 1947 Ann married Lt. Robert Novotny and moved to Denver, CO where she had 5 children. After the war, the family moved to the Harvey Park neighborhood and together they established generations of wonderful lifelong friends. Ann was a seasoned and accomplished housewife until the end. She passed away at home in peace on February 25, 2016 with family. Ann was a Charter member of the Notre Dame Catholic Church, a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and a Denver County Election Judge. She loved playing cards, attending church circle events, hosting happy hour on Fridays, and any of Jim's smoked specialties at family gatherings. Surviving Ann are her children: Bob (Donna Albrecht), Mary, Pam (Dan Ninemire), Jim, and Paul (Laura); her grandchildren: Sonja, Robin, Rachel, Jeff (Ashley Deakin), and Jake; her great-grandson; Danny Cruz; sister Rose (William) Kabeiseman; brother-in-law Fred (Mary) Novotny, sister-in-law Norma Novotny, and numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Ann was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years Robert, brother Harold Withee, sister Betty (Pat) Pike, and sister-in-law Regina Novotny. Visitation will be held 6pm Thursday March 3rd at Horan McConaty Family Chapel 3101 S. Wadsworth Blvd, Lakewood, CO with the Rosary beginning at 7pm. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30am at Notre Dame Catholic Church 2190 S. Sheridan Blvd, Denver, CO. Pavilion Service will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery 1:15pm.
