Dear Friends, It is with deep sorrow that we write to inform you that, after a difficult battle with cancer, Ann Elizabeth Sullivan passed away on April 17th, 2009. Around Thanksgiving, Ann was diagnosed with stage-four colon cancer and immediately underwent surgery to have a section of her colon removed. As soon as she recovered from the surgery, she began a rigorous series of chemotherapy treatments, the most recent of which seriously compromised her health. Because of complications from the chemo, Ann was unable to recover from a blood infection and passed peacefully away at St. Joseph's Hospital in Denver on the snowy afternoon of April 17th. Although the cancer and its peripheral effects took Ann's life, these last months of her life were as beautiful and joyful as the 70 years that preceded them. Even in the difficult last days in the hospital, Ann was a blessing and a comfort to those around her, bringing all of us closer together, closer to God, and closer to our purpose here on earth. We feel incredibly fortunate to have been given not just the gift of her life, but also the gift of being with her as that life reached its sacred culmination. As you well know, Ann's whole existence was committed to her family and her faith, and her death gave beautiful, final witness to this. It was a sweet sorrow, indeed. When such a spiritual and benevolent person leaves us behind, their absence can seem unendurable. But as a family, we take great comfort in knowing that Ann's spirit carries forward not only in Heaven, but also in all of those who were blessed enough to have been part of her rich and holy life.
