Ann Marie Ziegler

February 21, 1924 — October 25, 2009

Ann Ziegler passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2009. She was 85 years old. Born Ann Marie Wald on February 21, 1924 in Karlsruhe, ND to Anna (Boehm) and Michael Wald, Ann was the ninth child in the family of twelve children - eight boys and four girls. Ann grew up on the family farm near East Grand Forks, MN. She married Conrad J. Ziegler on June 16, 1947, and together they raised ten children (seven boys and three girls) in various towns and cities in North Dakota. Mr. Ziegler was a respected lawyer, states attorney, and later, federal judge; he preceded her in death in 1996. Ann was active in charitable church activities and groups, especially Catholic Daughters of America. She served as an officer for her local CDA, as regional vice president and president, and finally as the state regent for Catholic Daughters of American North Dakota, an office which she held for four years and which allowed her to travel to the national conventions. After moving to Bismarck in 1973, Ann worked as a dietary aide in the Baptist Nursing Home, and after moving to Fargo, ND in 1980, Ann took a supervisory job at a local hospital in the dietary department. Retirement brought Ann and Conrad to the Denver, Colorado area in 1990 to be closer to those children who had married and settled there. When Conrad passed in January, 1996, Ann moved to The Gardens at St. Elizabeth in Denver where she lived for thirteen years, happily reading at Mass, enjoying the many community gatherings, serving food at various parties and functions, participating in holiday presentations, serving on the Residents' Council, and generally enjoying every part of life at The Gardens. Ann was preceded in death by her brothers Michael, Joseph, Frank, Jacob, Adam, Father John Wald, S.V.D., Father Edward Wald, S.V.D.; and her sisters Elizabeth Kraft and Sister Albertine Wald, O.S.B. Her grandsons Conrad N. Ziegler and Ian Mastel also preceded her in passing. Ann is survived by her ten children: Dennis, Michael, Larry (Rhoda), Mark (Janice), Peggy (Pat) Mastel, Conrad (Anna), Kay, Ken (Saramary), Roger (Kelli), and Jane (Mark) Becker, as well as fifteen grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Alex (Edna) Wald and sister Mary (Emil) Bujnovsky, and many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews. Ann's funeral will be held at The Gardens at St. Elizabeth, 2835 W. 32nd Avenue, Denver at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 2, 2009. In lieu of flowers, please consider having a Mass said in Ann's honor, or make a contribution to the charity of your choice.
