Anna Crowe passed away peacefully on December 8, 2024, at the age of 97. She was born the youngest of four children in 1927 to Nathan and Emma Robbins in Gueydan, Louisiana.
Anna grew up in Jennings, Louisiana and attended public schools there before graduating from Jennings High School in 1944. She was Salutatorian of her high school class. Immediately following graduation, she enrolled in summer school at the University of Southwestern Louisiana and continued there for two years. Anna transferred to Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge and graduated with a BS degree in Education in 1947. She taught American History and Spanish at Crowley High School in Crowley, Louisiana for four years.
Anna enrolled in 1949 at the University of Colorado for summer school. She resided at the Kappa Sigma Fraternity House since the boys had moved out for the summer, but they were still allowed to dine there. On the second night at the Fraternity House, Cliff sat across the table from her. They began dating and dated for two years. Anna would visit Cliff during the summers and return in the fall to resume teaching at the high school in Crowley. During Christmas of 1950, Anna visited Cliff in Whiting, Indiana where he proposed to her. They married on September 5, 1951, in Jennings, Louisiana.
Anna and Cliff lived in a rented house in Hammond, Indiana where she taught at Black Oak Elementary. In 1956, they purchased a home in Lansing, Illinois. While living in Lansing, she taught at Sunnybrook Elementary. In 1964, Cliff was transferred to Colorado, where they lived in Arvada, Colorado until 1974. Later that year they purchased a home in Castle Rock, Colorado. They built a second home next door to their original home in 2003.
Anna loved to cook and took pride in her excellent dishes. With her love of history, she loved to travel with Cliff and family to see new places and visit family. Her favorite places included cruises in the Mediterranean and Baltic Seas, and trips to Las Vegas, Canada, and many of the national parks including Yellowstone and Glacier. She also enjoyed the many adventures at our family cabin in Grand Lake, Colorado.
Anna and Cliff were happily married for 64 years and had four daughters. Cliff passed away in May 2016. They loved us all very much and we will miss them with all our hearts. Anna is survived by her four daughters, Karen Harris, Janet Covelli, Joan Crowe, and Barbara Crowe (Fiancé Christopher Miller); her sons-in-law, Stephen Harris and Ryan Covelli, her four treasured grandchildren, Curtis, Alan, Kayla and Owen; and five great grandchildren, Cody, Blake, Austin, Aria, and Oliver.
In lieu of flowers please donate to St. Jude Children's Hospital in Memory of Anna Crowe.
