Anna was born in Wauneta, Nebraska on October 16, 1925. She was the oldest of seven children, daughter of Frank and Faye Walker. After attending school in both Wauneta and Imperial Nebraska, she graduated from Chase County High School in Imperial. She was accepted into the Army Cadet Nurses Corp training and trained at the Bishop Clarkson Memorial Hospital in Omaha. During this time, while riding on a bus to or from Omaha, she met a handsome young soldier in uniform. While war, military duties, and nurses training interrupted their romance, they kept in touch by letter and occasional visits. Although her studies were interrupted, she returned to Imperial and worked for a time at the Chase County Hospital as a nurse. In 1948, she married her handsome soldier, Stanley, and they moved to Colorado Springs, where Stanley used his G.I. bill to attend Colorado College and Anna worked as a practical nurse at Glockner Penrose Hospital. In 1949, a daughter (Stephanie Anne) was born. Six months later they moved to New York so Stanley could further his education and introduce his wife and daughter to his parents and relatives. In 1953, they had a son (Dale Dee). They remained in Brooklyn, New York for eleven years. While in Brooklyn and with two school aged children, Anna soon realized the need for a P.T.A. in P.S. 12. She worked diligently to build a very strong PTA and soon became president. She didn't stop until the school library had new books, classrooms had much needed resources, and parents had a new and active voice in their children's education. This was only the beginning of her many volunteer endeavors. After moving back to Colorado, Anna became a leader and district organizer for Camp Fire Girls, an assistant leader for Cub Scouts, a youth group leader in the Methodist Church, held office in Lionettes (The women's auxiliary of Lions Club), volunteer for North Suburban Hospital, sang in the ""Senior Friends"" choir - which performed for community events, was an election judge in Adams County, and active in the local Democratic party. She had many hobbies and interests: Crochet, sewing, ceramics, woodcarving, art classes (drawing and painting), leather tooling, and making greeting cards. She loved to sing and especially enjoyed all kinds of music. Above all else, Anna always found time for family and was a very generous and social person.
