Anne Louise Lungerhausen

June 25, 1922 — March 28, 2011

Anne Louise Lungerhausen, 88, formerly of Hermansville, MI died Monday, March 28th, 2011 at St. Anthony's Hospital in Denver, CO. She was born in 1922, the daughter of the late G. Harold & Anne (Allen) Earle. She lived in Hermansville nearly her entire life, except for her college years at Michigan State University and the University of Chicago. In 2007 she moved to a retirement community in Golden, Colorado near her sons Richard and John. She married the love of her live, Richard T. Lungerhausen in Sacramento, CA in 1944. At the end of World War Two the couple returned to Hermansville and started their family. Anne Louise returned to college in 1966 and obtained a Bachelors degree in education in 1967 from Northern Michigan University and her Masters degree in Learning Disabilities in 1969. She taught Junior High School in Hermansville from 1966 to 1970 and was an educator with North Central Area Schools until she retired in 1985. In 1998, she received the President's Award for Distinguished Citizenship from Northern Michigan University. After her retirement she and her husband traveled extensively on trips to England, Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico, the Caribbean and the Western United States. They also spent many of the summer months at their second home in Blaney Park, MI. Anne Louise was very active in the community and served on the board of directors for Northpointe Behavioral Healthcare Systems for many years. She was a member of the Hermansville United Methodist Church where she served as a board member as well as organist, choir director, and Sunday School teacher. In addition, she was a longstanding member of the Matinee Music Club of Iron Mountain. Although she served the community in many ways, she considered the establishment of the IXL Historical Museum her lasting legacy to the community. She is survived by three sons, Charles (Susan) of San Diego, CA, Richard (Jeanann) of Lakewood, CO and John (Dixie Vice) of Golden, CO; two daughters Karen (Karl) Krepps of Curtis, MI. and Catherine (Jim) Rhino of Oconto Falls, WI; brother-in-law, John C. Lungerhausen of Hermansville, MI.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister Celia Loess, and daughter Ellen. A memorial service is planned for later this year.
