Annette L. Sala, born Annette Wurdeman on March 16, 1929 in Creston, NE, passed away on November 14, 2010 in Denver, CO. Annette attended a country school near Creston, NE through the eigth grade and then went on to attend Creston High School, graduating in 1947. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wayne State Teacher's College in 1951 where she majored in Education with a emphasis in Home Economics and a minor in English. Annette began her career teaching Home Economics in the Leigh, NE public schools. Annette started her 58 year marriage to Howard H. Sala in 1952 whom she had met at Wayne State Teacher's College. Howard and Annette initially called Hartington, NE home where Howard took a job as a high school teacher and coach. After the birth of their first child, Linda the couple moved to Denver, CO in 1955 where they gave birth to their second child, David. Annette remained an active Home Economist and teacher returning to work after her children were older. For a time she ran a parent-child preschool program for SEMBECs in Englewood, CO - then went to work for Emily Griffith Opportunity School in their Adult Education Program where she helped start Colorado's first training program for Homemaker-Home-Health Aides. Her work there was recognized for its warmth in touching the lives of the students who took her classes. She was an active member of HEHC, the Home Economics/Home and Community section of the Colorado and America Associations of Family and Consumer Sciences (CAFCS & AAFCS), and served in various capacities for the organization, including President in 1988. In 1992, Annette was named ""Home Economist of the Year"" by HEHC. She also served as a Board Member for the Colorado Parkinson's Association. In addition to her love for teaching and dedication to homemaking, she enjoyed gardening and membership in the Hampden Heights Garden Club and working with Habitat for Humanity. She treasured her time with family and friends. Annette is survived by husband, Howard H. Sala; daughter, Linda (Dwight) Angell; son, David (Dolores) Sala; grandchildren, Trevor, Will, Dillon and Marisa; brother, Orvin (Wileta) Wurdeman; many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Leona and Walter Wurdeman. A Memorial Service for Annette will be held on Friday, November 19, 2010 at 11:00 in the morning at Wellshire Presbyterian Church, 2999 S. Colorado Blvd., in Denver.
