Annie Vlasta Carter

August 9, 1918 — September 17, 2012

Annie Vlasta Carter was born on August 9th 1918 in Smithville, Texas and passed from this world on September 17, 2012 in Centennial, Colorado. She was the youngest of five sisters and two half-brothers who have all preceded her in death. Her father John Susen and mother Veronica have also passed. Annie attended La Grange Texas High School where she was Valedictorian of her graduating class. She married Jessie Carter and had one child, Charlene Caywood of Englewood, Colorado. Her husband Jessie has also gone on before her. Annie enjoyed working in the business office of the North Federal K-Mart here in Denver until she retired. After retirement, Annie enjoyed her crafts including crochet, sewing and other handiwork and attending craft shows with granddaughter-in-law Mary McGhee. Annie had a large influence on her great granddaughter Jessica's life by providing child care, love and early education while her parents Tim and Mary continued their careers. Annie regularly attended Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Aurora and other churches with family members. Annie has four grandchildren: Tim McGhee of Aurora, Anne Fowble of Brighton, Jamie Binnie of Parker and Cristine Martinez of Castle Rock. She has three great grandchildren Jessica McGhee, and Erin and Drew Martinez and two grandchildren who have preceded her in death: Mitchell and Tommy McGhee and one great grandson Jake Martinez. Annie has been fortunate to have a long life and been surrounded by friends and family. More recently, she has relished her new family at Abbey Road Assisted Living where the residents and staff have loved her and cared for her for the past few years. At age 94, Annie has many friends and family already in heaven and is rejoicing as she joins them in the Lord's house for her celebration. A Funeral Service for Annie will take place on Friday, September 21, 2012 at 10:00 in the morning at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 11150 E. Dartmouth Ave., in Aurora with the Recitation of the Rosary beginning at 9:30 AM. A reception will follow at All Saints Lutheran Church, 15625 East Iliff Avenue, Aurora, Colorado 80013.
