Anthony J. ""Tony"" Rechlitz, II

January 28, 1952 — July 14, 2013

Anthony J. ""Tony"" Rechlitz died July 14, 2013 at his home in Aurora, CO. Tony was born in Beloit, WI on January 28, 1952. He was the youngest of four children; David, Mary, and Susan; and the son of Ervin T. and Doris G. Rechlitz. While Tony was still a child, his family moved to Pueblo, CO where his father practiced ophthalmology. Tony attended Colorado State University where he eventually met his beautiful wife Greer Baker. On March 17, 1974 Tony and Greer married in Broomfield, CO. Tony graduated with a Bachelor's of Arts in philosophy in June 1974. Tony went on to obtain a Juris Doctorate from the University of Colorado Law School in Boulder in 1979 and subsequently took a job as in-house counsel at U.S. Home. In 1980, Tony took a position as an attorney at Haligman and Lottner. In 1983 Greer and Tony's son Christian was born and in 1985 their daughter Sarah was born. In 1989, Tony pursued his political dreams by running for a seat in the Colorado State House. Although his run was unsuccessful, his involvement and interest in politics continued until his death. Tony was heavily involved in Bill Clinton's first presidential campaign and attended the 1992 Democratic National Convention and various Inauguration balls. In 1997, in partnership with two other attorneys, Lisa Shimel and Scott Levin, Tony started a new law firm: Levin, Rechiltz, and Shimel. In 2005, while continuing to work as a real estate attorney, Tony opened up his own practice, the Rechlitz Law Firm, at which he worked until his death. During his life, Tony was involved in his church, Holy Love Lutheran, serving as Council President and volunteering to help during church services by serving Communion and being a reader. Tony was also active in various charities to include HomeAid Colorado, where he served as a board member for 11 years, and the Home Builder's Foundation, where he served as a board member until his death. These charities assist in providing houses for homeless families and individuals and accessible home modifications for low income families with disabilities. Tony was an avid Colorado Rockies fan, often going to games with his daughter Sarah and her husband Luke. Tony was a loving husband, father, and brother and will be terribly missed. He is survived by his wife Greer, his children Christian and Sarah, and his sister Mary. A Memorial Service will be held in Tony's honor on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at 10 AM at Holy Love Lutheran Church, 4210 South Chambers Road, Aurora, CO 80014. Memorial donations can be made in Tony's honor to the American Diabetes' Association Colorado Chapter, 2460 West 26th Avenue, Suite 120B, Denver, CO 80211.
