Anthony Louis Sarno, 60, of Arvada, died January 30, 2014 following a brief illness. Tony ""Pa"" Sarno was born on January 9, 1954, the third son of Tony and Rose Marie Sarno. He was 18 months younger than his twin brothers, Ron and Don, and 18 months older than his brother, Dale. All four brothers were very close, sharing the same bedroom in their small house for years. They lived in Broomfield during Tony's childhood and adolescence. One of Tony's fondest memories was racing on bicycles with his brothers down the steep incline on Indiana Street. The hill was so steep that it brought both fear and excitement. Tony, along with his father and brothers, spent untold hours working on cars and occasionally racing at Bandimere Speedway. Graduating from Broomfield High School in 1972, Tony went on to work with his hands, developing many varied skills over the years. Whenever something needed built, repaired, or remodeled, Tony was called upon by friends and family alike. A contractor and skilled craftsman, many people see reminders of his work in their homes and lives on a daily basis. In 1976, Tony married Mary Christine ""Chris"" Stipe and in 1979, they welcomed their daughter, Stefanie. It was apparent to all that Tony had fallen deeply, madly in love with his daughter. She was the light of her father's life and he reveled in watching her grow up. In 1998, a new chapter was added to Tony's life when he welcomed his first grandchild, Dylan Sarno. Stefanie never needed a babysitter because Tony was there at any time for the opportunity to keep his grandson. During Dylan's nearly 16 years, there was never an event that ""Pa"" missed, from birthday parties to school events, to every single lacrosse game. Pa was the steady male presence in Dylan's life since the day he was born. In 2006, his second grandson, Joshua Anthony Sutrina, was born. Now Pa enjoyed both boys, often on a weekly basis. Both of his grandsons adored their grandfather. Tony continued to attend all of Dylan's games, and now all of Josh's football and baseball games, and wrestling tournaments. He often acted as substitute chauffeur for school and sports events. Tony was preceded in death by his father, Tony Sarno, his mother-in-law Mary Stipe, and father-in-law Ed Stipe. He is survived by his daughter, Stefanie, her husband, John Sutrina, grandsons Dylan and Joshua, his mother Rose Marie, his former wife, Chris, brothers, Ron (Peggy), Don (Terri), and Dale (Delene) as well as 14 nieces and nephews and numerous other relatives. He is also survived by brother and sisters-in-law as well as many close friends who adored him. A Celebration of his life is Sunday, 2pm, Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 3020 Federal Blvd. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Birds of Prey Foundation http://www.birds-of-prey.org/ Please share your memories of Tony and condolences to his family by signing the Guestbook below.
