Archibald Crawford Sheldon

Archibald Crawford Sheldon, 87, died July 25, 2016 at MorningStar Senior Living of Littleton, CO. He was born, February 14, 1929 in Geneva, IL to Archibald M. And Fay C. Sheldon. He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Louise S. Ray, a brother, John A. Sheldon and two nephews, Frank Ray and Scott Sheldon. Archie attended The Elgin Academy, Elgin, IL; graduated from The Governor's Academy, Byfield, MA; attended MIT, University of IL and graduated from Northwestern University, Chicago. Between college careers, he was a cadet at The US Merchant Marine Academy, Pass Christian, MS; worked at Northrup Aeronautics, Santa Monica, CA, and returning to Illinois worked for Elgin Softener and Northwestern University, Chicago. He subsequently became the business manager at what was then The IL Visually Handicapped Institute (now part of the IL Dept. of Human Services). Archie grew up in St. Charles, IL and was a long time resident of Carpentersville, IL where he was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, Dundee, IL; was active in the McHenry Co. Bike Club and volunteered at St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin. He was a man of many interests; an artist, a sailor, a cyclist, a bowler, a car and plane enthusiast, a photographer and a lover of dogs and the outdoors. But most important to him was his family. His untiring creativity, love for and interest in his children and his enduring sense of humor underscored everything he did. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Virginia Kersey Sheldon, two children, Cynthia (Jeff) Padrick of Denver, CO and Charles K. Sheldon of Ahawhnee, CA., two grandchildren, Clare and Elliot Padrick; his nephew, Bill Ray of Chicago, his sister, Ann Osgood of San Rafael, CA and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the Moss-Norris Funeral Home, St. Charles, IL at 11AM on September 10, 2016, visitation at 10AM. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made in his memory to the Alzheimer's Association. Please share memories of Archie and condolences with the family by signing the guestbook below.
