Armando was born on July 10, 1935 in Edith, CO to Tobias and Rosa Trujillo. He was one of 13 children and Spanish was his first language. He had to learn English to attend kindergarten. He really didn't like school and would run all the way home during recess. After the first week, the teacher made him hold her hand during recess to keep him at school.
During his youth, Armando enjoyed playing football. When he was about 16 he broke his leg and ended his high school football playing. It was at this point that he chose to enlist in the United States Air Force and worked in the technical communications field. The Air Force took a small town young man around the world, traveling to Morocco, the Philippines, Okinawa, Alaska, California and Oklahoma. He married Alice in 1968 before his final tour in Vietnam. Before he was done with his military career, he completed two tours in Vietnam. For 21 years he committed his life to the Air Force until his retirement in 1975. The family moved to Lakewood and has been here since then.
What do you do when you retire and your only 38 years old? Armando started working at a variety of jobs that included a glass company, a sporting goods company and Ace Hardware. For anyone that had the opportunity to get to know him, he had a wicked sense of humor and loved a good joke. It was not unusual to find him in a corner holding court with lots of laughter.
Armando is survived by his wife Alice, children Ron & wife Lisa, Ramona, Joe, Miguel and Maria & husband Jason, sisters Nea, Becky, Priscilla, Mary and Lucilla, grandchildren, Michael, Heather, Jeffrey, Michael, Alex, Nick, Cecilia, Meghan, Damen, David, Riley and Rowan.
To his family he was a loving brother, husband, father and papa. He loved his family and friends with a fierce loyalty. His warmth and comfort will dearly be missed. But in his absence here on earth, he will certainly be looking after us all, helping us all to show that same warmth and comfort to each other.
