April 7, 1931 — October 28, 2012

Arthur Phillip Bennett, Jr. was born in Denver, Colorado to Arthur Phillip Bennett, Sr. and Hazel Bennett on April 7, 1931. He lived in north Denver until he was six years old when he, an older and younger sister and their parents moved to Aurora, CO. His parents purchased his Grandmother Bennett's home at 135 Boston St. He spent his childhood and teenage years in that home. He graduated from Aurora High School in 1949. When the Korean War broke out in 1950, he enlisted in the Colorado Air National Guard. They were activated into the US Air Force in January of 1951 and moved to Clovis Air Force Base, New Mexico. Art is an Atomic War Veteran, having participated in an above ground Atomic bomb test in 1952. After his discharge from active duty, he enrolled at the University of Denver. He always worked full time when he was in school, first for Safeway and then Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. Art met Ellen Merry, a teacher (from SD) who was working for the Cherry Creek Schools. Art and Ellen were married on August 2, 1959. They are the proud parents of Michelle Bennett Raymond and Phillip Robert Bennett and grandchildren, Ben and Amy Raymond and Hank, Jack and Lake Bennett. Art worked for Goodyear, Uniroyal and BF Goodrich Tire Companies. He retired from Goodrich after 26 years in 1993. Art always loved old cars and owned two of them and an ""old"" truck. He collected model cars and after his retirement built model airplanes. He also took up bike riding after his retirement, riding many miles a week. Art was a loving parent, grandparent and husband. He and Ellen celebrated their 53 wedding anniversary this past August. We will all miss his wit and ability to connect with all ages. Art died October 28, 2012 of congestive heart failure. Art and Ellen have attended Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit for 41 years! Someday By Ben Raymond Someday I'll leave this world. But to me that's only a new beginning.
