Arthur George Harnagel

June 8, 1936 — February 16, 2017

Art Harnagel, 80, of Denver, passed away on February 16th, 2017, at his home, peacefully in his sleep. He was born in Miller, Nebraska June 8, 1936 to Lester and Ethel Harnagel. He attended high school in Miller and graduated in 1953. After high school, he was a magazine salesman, and then an independent truck driver. In 1958, he married Marna Horn, and almost 59 years later, they were still happily married. They lived a short time in Springfield, Missouri, before moving to Kearney, Nebraska in 1962. After having their two children, they moved to North Platte, NE, in 1970, and finally to Denver, CO in 1987, where he lived out the rest of his life. In 1988, Art started working for ABF Freight, driving from Cheyenne to Salt Lake City weekly, and home for the weekends. He finally retired at age 78 in 2014, after much debate and procrastination. He enjoyed his career at ABF and his many friends and colleagues there. He drove over two million miles accident free and earned Driver of the Year distinction from the Wyoming Trucking Association in 2009. He also enjoyed traveling with Marna, to visit friends and family, watching Nebraska Cornhuskers and Denver Broncos football, and the occasional golf game on those perfect days. More than anything though, Art loved his family, and was happiest sitting back with a houseful of the people that he loved. He is survived by his wife, Marna, children Breke Harnagel (Linda), Kellona Bain-Burke (Steve), grandchildren Rory and Chelsea Bain and Audrey and Elliott Harnagel, great-granddaughter Ariah Bain, brothers Duard (Sandy) and Jerry (Ann). Preceding him in death were his parents, brother Willis Harnagel, and son-in-law Kelly Bain. Services will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, 6500 E. Girard Ave, Denver, CO, on March 11th at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Denver Dumb Friends League or any other charity, as he was an extremely generous person.
