Arthur M. Hingerty, 68, died at his home in Denver, CO, on December 26, 2022.
Arthur was raised in Brooklyn and Yonkers, NY, where NASA’s Mercury, Gemini and Apollo programs, along with unsupervised model rocketry, ignited interest in his future career. After graduation from Cardinal Spellman High School in the Bronx, NY, Arthur studied Chemical and Nuclear Engineering at Manhattan College.
While working for Consolidated Edison in Manhattan, Arthur flew down to Cape Canaveral to visit the Kennedy Space Center and flew home with a job offer from Martin Marietta Aerospace to work on the Space Shuttle Program – the beginning of a career in Aerospace engineering that spanned over 40 years. While in Florida, Arthur also worked for Lockheed Space Operations and received a Master of Science in Space Systems Technology from the Florida Institute of Technology.
Drawn by its beauty, Arthur relocated to Colorado to attend the University of Colorado, where he earned a Master of Arts in Public Policy. He continued his Space Policy research and published a number of papers and articles while working for Raytheon, Scitor Corporation and SAIC to support a variety of programs and missions.
Arthur was also a musician and an avid music fan, enjoying everything from operas at the Ellie to local bands at the Lion’s Lair. He was a car guy, as well – always tinkering with one of his cars before taking it for a test run at Bandimere Speedway or embarking on a road trip around our beautiful state. He is survived by his longtime partner, Cindy, their pets, Buddy, Freddie and Lola, and his sister, Kathleen, of Yonkers, NY. His parents, Jane and Arthur C. Hingerty, preceded him in death.
