Arthur Francis Libby

March 24, 1922 — December 20, 2016

Art lost his battle with cancer December 20, 2016. He is survived by son Dale of Highlands Ranch, daughters Dr. Debra Stanley of Ken Caryl, Diane McPheeters of Florence, OR, and Mary Ellen Keskimaki of Kamloops, BC, as well as by nine grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Art is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 70 years, Mary. Art was born in Contoocook, NH in 1922, the second of three children. He was the first in his family to attend college, graduating from UNH just in time to join the US Army in WWII. Art was sent to OCS and commissioned in 1943. He was assigned to an Engr Combat Bn, serving as a platoon commander with the First US Army in France, Belgium and Germany. He later served as battalion adjutant during the German occupation, and remained active in the Army Reserve, retiring as a Lt Col. In 1946, when Art returned from Europe, he married Mary Ellen Reese of New Orleans, a lovely southern belle he had met during the war. A registered engineer, Art was employed by the NH Highway Dept, the Calif Div of Highways, and the Fed Highway Admin, retiring as Regional R/W Director in the Denver office. He was active in the Catholic Church and also served on the boards of both the YMCA and Lakewood Sister Cities. Mary and Art enjoyed family and world travel, visiting more than 100 countries. A prayer vigil will be held December 26, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at Horan & McConaty, 3101 S. Wadsworth. The Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. December 27th at St. Jude Catholic Church, 9405 W. Florida Ave; reception to follow. Interment at Ft. Logan National Cemetery. Please share your memories of Art and offer condolences to his family by signing the guestbook below.
