Arthur ""Joe"" McDonald

Arthur ""Joe"" McDonald was born in Rifle, Colorado on May 30, 1935 to Arthur James “Soapy” McDonald and Dorothy “Dolly” Vidal. Joe passed away on November 3, 2019 in Westminster, Colorado after a long illness. He is reunited with his beautiful wife Barbara McDonald who preceded him. Joe is survived by three daughters, Phyllis (David), Karen (Steve) and Kathy (Mike). Joe has seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He also has three siblings, Vicki, Micki and Allan; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and close friends.

Joe moved to Edgewater as a young boy and lived in the same house on Harlan Street for 72 years. He met his lovely wife Barbara at Edgewater High and they married in 1953. Joe had an active life with many years of community service in Edgewater. He served as Edgewater’s Fire Chief, Councilman and Mayor. He was also very active at Post 17 of the American Legion. Joe retired from Martin Lockheed after a very successful career where he received many awards of excellence for his detail work.

Family and friends who visited the McDonald home over the years were greeted with welcoming hospitality. The home was full of music with Joe on his banjo and Barb at the piano. Joe and daughter Karen had many duets and performances together. Everyone joined in and sang loud and proud!

Joe was a master model boat builder and created several masterpieces during his retirement that are treasured by his family. He could spend months working on the tiny fine details on each of these beautiful ships.

A celebration of Joe's life will be held on Friday, November 22, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 7577 West 80th Avenue, Arvada, Colorado. The McDonald family will be receiving guests and hosting a luncheon at Horan & McConaty immediately following the service.

Following the luncheon there will be a procession to Crown Hill at approximately 12:30 PM for a brief graveside service.
