ARTHUR FRANCIS ORMSBY Arthur F. Ormsby Arthur F. Ormsby, 93 of Denver, CO died Sunday, October 3, 2004 at Garden Terrace Nursing Home. He was born July 16, 1911 in Elwood, Indiana to William E & Carolyn A (Schmitt) Ormsby. On June 30, 1938, he married Helen C Magers and she died on October 10, 1990. He then married Mary A Bear on July 6, 1991 and she died on April 6, 2004. Art was a devout Catholic and was an active member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church for many years. Most recently, he was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Tipton, Indiana where he resided with his wife Mary until her passing in April. Art returned to Denver in April, but was unable to attend church services due to his failing health. Art enlisted in the Army on June 23, 1932 and was sent to Quartermaster's Corps at Ft Warren, Cheyenne, WY. In 1934, he requested a short discharge and re-enlisted for assignment to Panama, 4th Coast Artillery at Ft Amador B Battery. In September, 1935, he transferred to the Quartermaster Corps at the Post of Oorozal. On August 30, 1936 he was discharged from the Army and became a civilian employee of the Panama Canal Railroad Co. He worked for the Federal Government until his retirement on July 1, 1972. Art played baseball, as shortstop and relief pitcher, in the City League of Denver from 1939-1942. He was active in Boy Scouts and enjoyed coaching Little League Baseball. In his retirement in Denver, he worked with the Tax Assistance Program for the Elderly, volunteered for the Park Hill Food Shelf and Catholic Worker Soup Kitchen. He was a member of the Timberline Bowling League and was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus. Art is survived by 13 children. They are Carol (Greg) Stein of Kenmore, NY, Margaret (Harland) Heyden of Salem, OR, Victor (Sharon) Ormsby of Winona, MN, Janet Ormsby and Judy Cross of Aurora, Colorado, Mary (Hank) Tschopp of Denver, CO, William (Barbara) Ormsby of Denver, CO, Patrick (Barbara) Ormsby of Windsor, CO, John (Jeanette) Ormsby of Sioux City, IA, Michael (Dorothy) Ormsby of Buena Vista, CO, Monica (Ted) Rockenhaus of White Rock, NM, Susan Loves of Denver, and Anthony (Sarietha) Ormsby of Aurora, CO. One sister, Margaret E. Ormsby of Denver, CO. 25 Grandchildren, Emily Castaneda, Steve Tonskemper, Peter Ormsby, Rebecca Charles, Alesia Haak, Erica Stein, Erik Tschopp, Heather Ormsby, Jennifer Schallehn, Michelle Jackson, Tracey Stein, Kevin Ormsby, Amy Heyden, Jessica DeWaele, Daniel Ormsby, Stephanie Coyle, Carrie Heyden, Doug Ormsby, Robin Roach, Erin Rockenhaus, Dianna Ormsby, Kirsten Stein, Teri Rockenhaus, Brad Bettag and Matthew Ormsby; 21 Great-grandchildren, Cambria Hines, Alexander Ormsby, Jaclyn Haak, Andrew Ormsby, Meghan Jackson, Samuel Charles, Xander Coyle, Mikayla Ladd, Jaden DeWaele, MichaelAnne Roach, Jonathan Haak, Austyn DeWaele, Lola Villamonte-Stein, Miles Ladd, Matthew Jackson, James Roach, James Haak, Jack Schallehn, Sarietha Coyle, Nathaniel Charles, and Matthew Ormsby. Two brothers and one sister are deceased. Art's funeral will be Saturday, October 9th at 10:00 AM at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Denver, CO. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Wheat Ridge, CO. Visitation will be Friday, October 8th from 2:00-5:00 PM at Horan & McConaty, 1091 S Colorado Blvd (Colorado at Mississippi), Denver, CO. Rosary will be Friday, October 8th at 7:30 PM at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Denver, CO.
