Beloved husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed his family and friends, teaching and sports. Allan Steinke passed into eternal life on August 16, 2016 with his wife and three sons at his side. Allan was born February 23, 1933 to Loretta and Art Steinke in Wichita, Kansas. After moves to California, Utah, Idaho and Missouri, the Steinkes settled in Denver, Colorado in 1947. Allan attended St. Francis de Sales High School. Inspired by his uncle, Gene Steinke, he played football, basketball and baseball. He was an all-parochial league football and basketball player and played guard in the 1950 Colorado High School all-star basketball game. Some of his favorite memories were playing on the 1949 and 1950 parochial state championship basketball teams. His most memorable game was the 1950 basketball championship in which St. Francis won an exciting victory by erasing a 5-point deficit with two minutes to play against Regis. Allan was captain of the 1950 team. After graduating high school in 1950, Allan went to Regis College on a basketball scholarship and studied history his freshman and sophomore years. He then went to the University of Denver and continued playing in the AAU league for Continental Airlines. He was also a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. Prior to college graduation, Allan joined the U.S. Army during the Korean War and served in Fairbanks, Alaska from 1954 to 1956 in the 6th Infantry, Battery B, 502 AAA. After an honorable discharge as a Specialist 4, Allan continued to serve his country in the U.S. Army Reserves until 1962. Allan completed his Bachelors degree in history from D.U. in 1956. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service and later earned a Masters degree from the University of Northern Colorado in 1965. Allan began his teaching career in Littleton Public Schools as a physical education teacher and later principal at West Elementary in 1962. He was the principal of Eugene Field Elementary School from 1969-1980 and then a guidance counselor at Newton and Goddard junior high schools until 1988. Allan met the love of his life, Margie Craig, early in 1958 and married her on December 27, 1958. Allan and Margie have three sons who graduated from Littleton High School and college. Allan and Margie are parishioners of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Englewood, CO.
