Arun Madan

Dr. Arun Madan, 66, passed away on January 2, 2013 at home close to his family. Arun was born April 13, 1946 in New Delhi, India. At the age of 11, he and his family moved to London, England. Arun graduated from Reading University in 1967 and went on to earn his PhD in physics from the University of Dundee in 1973. While studying at Reading, Arun met Angie and they were married in 1970. Arun and Angie lived in many places including Dundee, Sheffield, Trinidad, Michigan and eventually settled in Denver, Colorado in 1982. Arun's professional achievements are immense. While studying for his PhD, Arun discovered the Amorphous Silicon which paved the way for the first thin film transistor. He established Glasstech Solar, Inc, in 1984 which later became Solar Cells Inc. and then First Solar. In 1989, Arun started MVSystems, Inc. and served as President and CEO for 23 years. Over the course of his career, Arun published over 150 scientific papers and co-authored an advanced semiconductor textbook that is used at several universities and has been translated into Russian. Through his work, Arun led teams of scientists/engineers in multi-disciplinary programs involving thin film semiconductors and product development. This includes solar cells, thin film transistors, nuclear particle detectors, tin oxide coatings, Zinc Oxide, photosensor imaging arrays, etc. He is also the holder of 14 basic patents on thin film semiconductor technology as well as advanced vacuum semiconductor deposition systems. The machines developed at MVSystems Inc. have been sold to companies and universities all over the world. Arun is survived by his wife of 42 years Angela (Turnell) Madan, his two children Nadia Madan Morrow (Manuel J. Morrow) and Damian Madan and his two grandchildren Manuel Morrow Jr. and Daylen Morrow. A Celebration of his life will be held on Friday, January 25th at 10:00am Horan & McConaty, 3101 South Wadsworth Boulevard, Lakewood, CO 80227.
