Aven Allen Northway

April 26, 1932 — February 9, 2013

Aven Allen Northway passed peacefully on February 9th, 2013 at Porter Hospice after battling cancer for one year. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Corrinne (Corky) Northway, two daughters, Nanci Northway and her husband Chuck, and Teresa Hodgson and her husband Burt, and three grandchildren, Jennifer, Rebecca and Winona. He is also survived by his sister, Grace Tyner of Sarasota, Florida. Aven attended the University of Iowa and the University of Colorado where he graduated in 1954 with a degree in civil engineering. He participated in ROTC and was commissioned in the Navy from 1954 - 1959 where he served at sea and finished as a lieutenant, teaching in the Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit in Maryland. After his service, he earned a Masters in Business Administration from Harvard Business School, and then worked for Bechtel Corporation in New York City. Aven relocated to Colorado in 1962 where he worked for Lockheed Martin. When he retired in 1988 he continued to contribute by teaching in the Graduate program in the School of Computer and Information Sciences at Regis University. Aven enjoyed playing cards, reading and golf. He and his wife have been members at Pinehurst Country Club for 47 years and have also been Pioneer Members of the Rio Verde Country Club in Arizona for 30 years. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The American Cancer Society or Porter Hospice Foundation. There will be a private interment at Fort Logan National Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, February 19th, 10AM, Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 3101 South Wadsworth Blvd. Please share memories of Aven and condolences with his family by signing the online guestbook below.
