Barbara Dozier

June 2, 1947 — October 15, 2020

Lakewood

Barbara Dozier, age 73, passed away unexpectedly on October 15, 2020. After two major hospital stays in 2019 and 2020, she fought back to continue to spend time with her loving family and husband of 53 years. Battling back from her third hospitalization her beautiful heart stopped. She was surrounded by loving family members when she passed away.

Barbara was born in Lockport, New York to Robert Benjamin Welch and Mildred Baye Welch. Precious wife, best friend, partner, and love of her husband Michael; wonderful, loving and caring mom to Daren, Devin and Dustin and grandmother to Kirsten, Dylan and Matthew. Barbara is also survived by her brother Richard Welch of Houston, Texas, and is preceded in death by her sister Linda. Family was the most important thing in Barbara’s life, and she left many great memories with those she cared for.

Barbara had the experience of living in many parts of the country with her family, and later with her husband and sons. She loved to travel taking many memorable vacations, road trips, motorhome excursions and a recent Caribbean cruise.

Barbara loved Broadway musicals, film noir movies, romantic and crime period pieces from the 20’s and 30’s. Her favorite songs included “Harvest Moon” (Neil Young) and “When You Say Nothing at All” (Alison Krauss), both a reflection of the relationship with her loving husband. Some other favorites of hers included: “All of Me” (John Legend); “Once Upon a Time” (Kevin Spacey); “Have You Ever Seen the Rain” (Willie and Paula Nelson); “Mary in the Morning” (Glen Campbell); “Wagon Wheel” (Darius Rucker); and “Why Worry Now” (Dire Straits). Recent favorite books included Red: A History of the Redhead (Jacky Collis Harvey) and Things That Matter (Charles Krauthammer).

She loved pets and animals in general. Barbara and Michael, having lost loving pets over the years, loved the idea of meeting in the meadow just outside of heaven, reuniting with their beloved pets, and together crossing the “Rainbow Bridge” into heaven.

Her most recent social interactions created comments like “Barbara was a bright and shining light for all of us”. And of course, there was the saying, “Redheads are a bright and shining light mixed with a little hurricane”, which she said, and her family agreed, was a perfect word-painting of her.

A private viewing for Barbara will be held at Horan & McConaty Funeral Home in Lakewood on October 22, 2020. A Memorial Service is being planned at a later date.
