Barbara Hartung

Barbara Ann Hartung, age 80, passed away in Centennial, Colorado, on January 7, 2024.

Born April 18, 1943, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Clara Hartung (Stueber) and Ames Hartung. She graduated from Scottsbluff High School, Class of 1961.

Barbara started her journey at Colorado State University, Fort Collins. After earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Speech and Language Pathology, she started her career in Medford Oregon as a speech therapist for the Jackson County Education District. She then moved to Southern California and worked for the Fountain Valley School District.  She earned her Master's Degree in Speech and Language Pathology from California State University, Long Beach.

In 1972 She moved to Denver and found a home for her life’s work. She enjoyed a long career in the Cherry Creek School District, Englewood as a Speech/Language Therapist, and eventually as a Learning Specialist. She earned a second Master’s Degree from the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley.  Barb was an incredibly gifted teacher, loved by her students, parents, and all of her colleagues.  Following a full and rewarding tenure, Barb retired from Cherry Creek Schools in 2003.

Barb was always high energy and up for anything that was fun! She loved to dance, was a certified Aerobic Dancing and Jazzercise Instructor, and high-level skier. She loved to take long walks, golf, play bridge, sing with the Patchwork Singers, and attend as many plays at the Denver Center for Performing Arts as possible. Friendships were extremely important to Barb and always made her smile.

According to her wishes, cremation will take place in Colorado and her ashes will be buried at Farview Cemetery, Scottsbluff, Nebraska.  A Celebration of Life Gathering will take place in the Denver area this spring. Barbara is survived by her niece Amber Ball (Hartung) and nephews Ames Hartung III and Aaron Hartung. Great Nieces Klair Looschen (Acton), Margaret Hartung, and Rebecca Hartung. Great nephew Tate Acton.

She was preceded in death by her mother Clara Hartung, father Ames Hartung Sr., and Brother Ames Hartung Jr.
