Barbara Ann Hughes
Barbara Ann Hughes, of Thornton, Colorado, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her children on October 29th, 2024, at 88 years old.
Barbara was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, daughter, and friend. She fought a hard battle after her spinal stroke in 2019. She loved everyone she encountered on her journey in life. The amount of love she gave her kids and grandchildren will be greatly missed and the amount of love she gave to her family will be unmatched. We cherish the memories we have of her. We love and miss you mom, You’re forever in our hearts.
Barbara was born on October 18, 1936, to Emma and John Sansom in Denver, Colorado.
Barbara met John Hughes in 1952 and married in 1953. Barbara and John had seven children, David John, Daniel James, Richard Edward, Michael LeRoy, John Patrick, Mary Patricia, and Douglas Martin.
During their married life, Barbara and John owned their own jewelry business from 1982 until the death of her husband in 2003. Both loved to travel, so they enjoyed many years exploring the U.S.
Throughout her life, Barbara was joyfully engaged in her family, church and community. Barbara was a loving and caring person who was always ready to help anyone in need. Barbara loved homemaking, camping in the mountains, sunsets, reading, crossword puzzles, playing Scrabble and cooking, cooking was her passion. She also loved reading and writing poetry.
Barbara’s love of family and love of God were her guiding principles throughout her life, she was a woman of strong Catholic faith.
Barbara was predeceased in death by her husband John James Hughes, her mother Emma Heister, her son Michael Leroy Hughes, her son John Patrick Hughes and her grandson David John Hughes, Jr.
Barbara is survived by her five children, son David John Hughes and his wife Grace Lynn Hughes, son Daniel James Hughes, son Richard Edward Hughes, daughter Mary Patricia and husband Lanny Ray Hancock, son Douglas Martin Hughes; ten grandchildren, Cheri and husband Bradley Shively, Robert Walsh, Christopher Walsh and partner Amanda Harrop, Sarah Hughes, Michael Hughes, Amy Hughes, Dillon and Dawn Hancock; nine great grandchildren; and one great great granddaughter.
Barbara was especially grateful for the support and care of her dear cousin Claudia Dulude, countless friends, especially the Most Reverend Kay Madden, Mother Alice Bradley, Father Tom Coyte, and Gabriela Solis who was her care giver.
A celebration of her life will be held at Church of The Beloved, 10500 Grant Dr, Northglenn, CO 80233 on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at 9:00 am. The Rosery will be on Monday, November 18, 2024, at 7:00 pm.
