Barbara Morris

On Sunday, January 31st, 2021, Barbara Jane Morris passed away at Rock Creek Medical Center in Louisville, Colorado.

She is remembered by her husband Donn Morris; her sisters, Sue and Margaret; her children, Suzanne (Alan), Donn (Nori), and Peter (Lisa); her grandchildren, Ian (Lydia), Erin (Osama), Amie, Carolyn (Anthony), PJ, Luke, Christopher, Emma, Tim, Kumiko, and Kira, and her great-grandchildren, Juniper and Darcy. She is preceded in death by her sister, Joan. Barbara was especially proud of her two grandsons, Luke and Chris, who are proudly serving in the U.S. Navy.

Born on December 28, 1935, Barbara grew up in Hartington, Nebraska and graduated in 1953 from Cedar County Catholic High School. In 1956, she earned a degree in Elementary Education from Clarke College in Dubuque, Iowa. Upon graduating, Barbara was recruited by Jefferson County Public Schools where she taught for one year before joining her husband in Munich, Germany where she taught children of U.S. Army personnel. After returning to the states, Barbara enjoyed a 29-year-long career teaching in Adams County (Districts 12 and 50). Teaching was Barbara's passion, and she influenced many lives through her work in education and shared lasting friendships with her students.

She was married to her husband, Donn, for 63 years. The pair met in Denver in 1956 and shared many adventures together including traveling to Germany, spending 57 years together in the house they raised their children in, and touring the country after retirement in their RV affectionately nicknamed Moby Dick. Barbara and Donn wintered in Florida where she enjoyed the warm weather.

Barbara is remembered for her charming personality, kindness, and humor. Even those who only met her briefly came away with a sense of her warmth and care for others. She was a wonderful teacher, mother, Grammy, and wife.

A Funeral Mass for Barbara will be held on Tuesday, February 9th, 2021, at 10am at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 4200 Federal Blvd, Denver, CO 80211. Her final resting place will be Fort Logan National Cemetery.
