Barbara Peabody, age 92, of Denver, Colorado died and went to be with the Lord on April 18, 2025. Barbara was born in Wray, Colorado on January 12, 1933 and met and married her husband, Thomas Peabody of El Reno, Oklahoma, to whom she was married for 66 years. She is survived by her three children, Michael, Steven and Schelly as well as eight grandchildren (Holly, Kayla, Melissa (Mike and wife, Arlene); Matt, Ashley, and Clayton (Steve) and Nikki and Jason (Schelly and husband, Tom Trojan) and six great grandchildren (Avery, Brinley, Zoey, Laney, Cooper and Louise).
Barbara grew up on the Schelly Ranch near Wray, Colorado on which her parents homesteaded. She graduated from Saint Lukes School of Nursing as a registered nurse in 1954 and from Denver University with a Nursing degree in 1956. From 1956 through 1960, Barbara worked as team leader and head nurse at Saint Luke’s hospital as well as an office nurse for two doctors until she temporarily halted her career to become a full-time mom. During this time, she served as a Sunday school teacher, den mother, assistant girl scout leader, and as a member of elementary and high school PTA’s where she held numerous offices such as ways and means chairman, budget chairman, and first vice president to name a few. To help put her children through college, Barbara resumed her career as a part time staff nurse at Porter Memorial Hospital in 1974 and as an office nurse for several doctors until she retired in 1990.
After retirement, Barbara became an active member of Bear Creek Evangelical Church where she served as a Deacon and enjoyed attending and teaching Precepts classes. She further loved traveling, and together with her husband, visited every state on the mainland, most of the Providences in Canada and several countries overseas. Other activities they enjoyed included square-dancing, meeting with friends at breakfast and dinner clubs and attending Denver Broncos and Colorado Buffalos football games. Finally, as owners of a cabin in Winter Park, they both delighted in many years of activities with family including skiing, hiking, fishing, dining, games and shopping.
There will be a private committal service at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado. Please share memories and condolences with Barbara’s family by signing the Tribute Wall.
