Barbara Jean ""Bobby"" Wetzel

Barbara Jean “Bobby” Wetzel, 89, of Denver was promoted to Heaven on May 25, 2018 from Mesa, Arizona as a result of complications from Alzheimer’s Disease. She was born on May 22, 1929 in Beckley, West Virginia. She was the daughter of the late William J. and Gladys V. (Holliday) Tully. Barbara married Marvin L. Wetzel on January 25, 1947 and together they shared 61 years of marriage until Marvin’s death in 2008. Barbara graduated from New Mexico Highlands University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. She taught elementary and middle school in Las Vegas, New Mexico; Charleston, West Virginia; and Trinidad, Colorado. Barbara and Marvin retired to Denver, Colorado in 1992. She enjoyed church, teaching children, cooking and baking, reading, working crossword puzzles, and watching baseball. Barbara is survived by her daughter Becky (Bill) Gillespie; her sister Carolyn (Tom) Minter; her daughter-in-law Serena; her grandchildren Christian Shew, Erin (Steve) Vigil, and Olivia (Trevor) Blunck; and her great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Marvin; sons Mike and Roger; and grandson Robert. A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held Thursday, June 14, 2018 at 1:30 PM at Horan & McConaty, 3101 S. Wadsworth Blvd., Lakewood, CO 80227. A reception will follow. Memorial donations may be made to The Message of Life Ministries.
