Barbara J. Wheeler

August 19, 1946 — October 3, 2010

Barbara Jo Wheeler died suddenly on Sunday, October 3, 2010 in Denver of non-smoking lung cancer. She is preceded in death by her Father, Dr. Warren Ned Wheeler. Survived by her mother, Viola Reich Wheeler; five sisters, Patricia Vicki Onderdonk, Dr.Connie Christine Wheeler, Karmen DeBora Wheeler, Suzanne Renee Wheeler (Kenneth Michael Nesbitt), Teresa Jean Wheeler (Bradley Mark Baker). Six nieces and nephews; Shannen Joyce VanderDonck(David Brian Dacko) James Todd VanderDonck (Nina Yu), Alena Renee Nesbitt, Loren Michael Nesbitt, Trevor Aaron Wheeler Baker, Landon Warren Wheeler Baker And one grand-niece; Peyton Bryce V. Dacko and numerous other family members and friends. Barbara Wheeler dedicated more than 30 years to teaching art to the children in the Denver Public School System. She was actively involved with the gifted and talented students program, leading students on tours to view New Mexico' s wealth of Southwestern art. After retiring from teaching, Ms.Wheeler found a new passion in the International Honorary Sorority of Women Educators, Alpha Delta Kappa, in which she was an active participant. She was also involved in several bridge groups in the Denver area, as well as traveling bi-weekly to Colorado Springs to play in the Candlelighter' s Bridge Club. A viewing will be held Sunday, October 10 from 12-1 pm at Horan & McConaty, 11150 E. Dartmouth Avenue (at Parker Road), Aurora, Colorado. A service at 1 pm will be followed by a reception at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made in memory of Barbara J. Wheeler to the American Cancer Society. This may be accomplished on-line at www.cancer.org/involved/donate.
