Barry Alan Carson, age 77, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2020 at the Mountain Vista Senior Living Center in Wheat Ridge, Colorado after a several-year battle with lung disease.
Although Barry was born April 2, 1943 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana during World War II, he was at heart always a Coloradan. His parents, Louis Thomas Carson, Jr. from Pennsylvania and Lois Eleanor Peoples, a Colorado native, met in Colorado where both attended North High School before the war.
After the war, the family, including older brother Thomas, returned to Denver, Colorado where Barry graduated from North High School. Following high school, Barry completed coursework at Colorado State University in Fort Collins. During his working life, Barry worked as a warehouseman for the American Can Company and Keebler in Denver. He finished out his career as a Business Agent for the Teamsters Union Local 537 where he was a tireless and passionate advocate for union members. Barry retired from the Teamsters Union in 1998. He also volunteered countless hours to coach, judge, assist and support Odyssey of the Mind and Destination Imagination teams.
Barry married Nancy Ann Vogel, who survives him, in 1968 and they lived in North Denver for the next 51 years. They have two children, Scot Alan (Christine) of Arvada, CO and Sara Ann (Leo), of Littleton, CO. Barry also is survived by his brother Tom (Carol) as well as three grandchildren, Joshua Alan, Katherine Eleanor, and Nicholas Bayne, who were highlights in his life. Barry spent innumerable hours playing with and attending activities, concerts and sporting events for, his beloved grandchildren.
Barry will be remembered for his kind heart, hard-working steady nature, and devotion to his family. He was always available to help out and was noted for his ability to build or repair anything with the results being always of the highest quality. He had a life-long passion for collecting and restoring automobiles as well as collecting automobile literature, model cars, and Coke items. His booth at the Tri-State Automotive Swap Meet was a favorite among other collectors and an event he looked forward to all year long to reconnect with friends. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.
