Barry Hughes Thies

January 30, 1928 — December 18, 2010

Barry Thies, 82 of Westminster. Husband of Dorothy Thies; father of Brian (Cheryl) Thies and Diane (Gary) Luecke; grandfather of Mitchell, Desiree, Jordan Thies; Kristen, Emma, Renae, Alan and Jacob Luecke; brother of Priscilla Lind. Barry was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He was always very proud of his family's accomplishments. A true friend of which he had many. Barry's birthplace was Scottsbluff, Nebraska. After High School graduation and a year of Junior College, he enlisted in the Army, where he was a member of the U.S. Occupation Forces in Japan. Following his Honorable Discharge he attended and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University (Big Red) of Nebraska. Moving to Denver in 1952, and after being employed by various printing firms and a brief stint as editor of a weekly newspaper, he joined The Denver Post where he worked for 24 years, retiring in 1992. He met his beautiful (still is) and future wife Dottie, who had recently returned from a two month tour of Europe. After much persistence on his part they were married in 1958. The union produced two children, Brian and Diane, and eight wonderful grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at 11am at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church located at 12099 Lowell Boulevard in Broomfield, Colorado.
