Benjamin Carl Bullock

Benjamin Carl Bullock, 38, of Commerce City, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly Thursday June 8, 2017 at UC Broomfield Hospital. He was a Communications Technician employed at Level 3 in Broomfield. He is survived by his parents Carl and Mary Bullock of Firestone, CO; 3 brothers, John of Guyton, GA; Todd of Clearfield, UT; and Daniel of South Jordan, UT; and two sisters Christina Selph of Firestone, CO; and Laura Luke of Logan, UT. He was preceded in death by an older sister, Angela. He was formerly married to Rachel Williams. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Ben was a favorite uncle to 7 nephews and 7 nieces who always looked forward to his visits and enjoyed his playful demeanor and playing games with him. His quick wit will be missed by family and friends. He was a good and loyal friend to many and was ever willing to share with others. He treated others the way he would want to be treated. Ben was a genuine person and very sensitive to others. Having felt the pain of exclusion, he always strived to include others. He cared about his friends and sharing his passions. His passion was infectious and his excitement would pull you in. He was always so patient with everyone. He wasn't afraid to voice his opinion and debate, but he never put someone down because of theirs. Ben cared a great deal for his friends, and his friends loved him for it. He will be dearly missed. As an eagle scout, he was always ready to help others. He was musically gifted and enjoyed occasional stints as a DJ. Ben learned to play the piano, trombone, and ""vinyls."" He enjoyed playing the trombone in the marching band at Standley Lake High School and singing in the choir. Acting in school musicals was a fun part of his musical education as well. He composed music as a youth, which served him well in putting music together as a DJ. He loved to share his musical skills at weddings, parties, in his neighborhood and at conventions. In sixth grade he learned to play the trombone. One day when he had completely 'had it' with his mom, he packed up his belongings and trombone to leave home. He figured he could play his trombone on the streets of downtown Denver and make enough money to live. ""Hot Cross Buns"" was his masterpiece. However, Ben did learn to make money with his musical skills, but mostly he just loved music. Ben had a love for Japanese culture especially Anime4. Eighteen years ago he got involved in NDK, Nan Desu Kan, and also was involved with COAF, Colorado Anime Fest. Ben took any job that was offered in order to help the convention run smoothly. Due to his reliability and love for the conventions he became an integral part in making them run. Specifically he was over the Rave that was so popular people would wait for hours in order to attend. He was well loved by all in this community and had a lasting impact and made lifelong friends. Ben enjoyed sharing his day with coworkers. Chris, a co-worker, reported that Ben knew the names of all the cafeteria staff and visited with them daily. He counted them among his friends. Ben and Chris would share funny videos, gifs, and memes they had found on YouTube or Reddit with one another, along with interesting news stories from any range of topic from science to current events that they had come across during the day. The latest developments in favorite video games was a frequent topic of conversation. Those friendships continued after work as well with get-togethers for soccer games, video game tourneys and other favorite activities. He was an avid video gamer and had many online friends and fellow enthusiasts. As teenagers, countless nights were spent down in Ben's room playing games together. We would keep playing together hour after hour, yelling/screaming/laughing/taunting, until dad got fed up and switched the power off to his room. I didn't realize it then, but Ben liked to share and include others, video games was just one medium. As an adult Ben still always had some type of gaming platform with him everywhere he went. He still loved sharing and including others. After turning on a game the first thing he would do is explain it to you and promptly hand it over to you and share it with you. A viewing will be held 6-8pm Tuesday June 13 at Horan & McConaty funeral home located at 9998 Grant Street, Thornton CO where family and friends may come to pay their final respects. A funeral service will be held 11 am at the LDS chapel located at 9029 Grand Mesa Drive in Frederick, CO with viewing at 10 am.
