Bentley Lee Marshall, Jr.

In Loving Memory . . . Bentley Lee Marshall, Jr. was born to Bentley Lee Marshall, Sr. and Notye Nowlin in Nashville, TN on December 17, 1928, the fourth of five children. Bentley is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters Olive (Livingston) Vaughn, Geraldine (James) Atkins, and Sandra (Lester) Craig, and one brother, Travis (Imogene) Marshall. Bentley grew up in Nashville, TN, was educated in the Davidson County Public Schools system, and graduated from Pearl Senior High School. Bentley also attended Tennessee State Normal and Agriculture College, later known as Tennessee State University, prior to enlisting in the U. S. Navy. He is noted for decorated service in the Korean Conflict aboard the USS J. C. Breckenridge, and was honorably discharged in 1955. Bentley continued to serve as a civilian at the Alameda (CA) Naval Station until his retirement in 1988. B. L., as he was known by family and friends, was a loving and attentive husband and father, and was active in his church community. Bentley spent the majority of his retired life in Denver, CO, with his wife of 62 years. Bentley passed to glory on December 18, 2017 following a prolonged illness. He is survived by his wife Carolynne King Marshall, daughter Carmalita Marshall (Kamau) Kemayo, son Bentley Leland Marshall, granddaughter Kiyana D. Kemayo, grandson Tombé A. Kemayo, and a host of nieces and nephews. Ashes will be interred at Saint Mary Cemetery in Oakland, CA. In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Arthritis Foundation. Cremation services provided by Horan & McConaty Funeral Services of Denver, Co.
