Bernard P. Gunther

Bernard Paul Gunther was born and raised in Broken Bow, Nebraska. He served in Japan with the Army during World War II. After the war he returned home and in October of 1948 he married Alice Y. Preston. They went on to have a son and two daughters before moving to Denver, Colorado in 1957, and added a third daughter in 1961. For over 50 years Bernard made a living as a mechanic, 20 of which he also selflessly served as a volunteer firefighter. Bernard had many interests and countless accomplishments that he and his family took great pride in. He was a top notch Ford mechanic, climbed through the ranks to become the Assistant Chief of Southwest Adams County Fire Department before his retirement after 20 years of service. He was also an avid outdoorsman; he truly enjoyed teaching his children and later his grandchildren about nature and how to fish. After retirement he and Alice took every opportunity to pack up the camper and head west. Through all of these endeavors he made many long lasting friendships and even more memories. Bernard was preceded in death by his loving wife, Alice Y. Gunther. He is survived by his beloved sister, Lucille Swick, as well as his four devoted children, Larry (Angie) Gunther Sr., Dianne Seymour, Gloria Mitchell, and Debbie Clark. He left behind his 11 adoring grandchildren: Larry Gunther Jr., Christina Awo, Angela (Adam) Montgomery, Heather (Ron) Gooch, Davida (Dave) Seymour-Hoffman, April Smith, Jenifer Stevens, Randy (Mindy) Stevens Jr., Robert (Briana) Clark, Nate (Meg) Gunther, Samantha (Jeffrey) Sayers. Bernard is also survived by 28 cherished great grandchildren: Darian ""Jane,"" Braelyn, Ainsley, Victoria, Autym, Kalani, Fantajia (Donald), Arthur, Lance, Jewelyan, Ryan, Jacob, Elizabeth, Tatiana, Preston, Zachary, Autumn, Nevaeh, Allisa, Payton, Zaya, Kaiya, Cadence, Harrison ""Hank,"" Allie, Jaidan, Alyssa, and Rilyn. Bernard will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He lived a long life full of family, friends, and ""the best darn dogs there ever were."" Bernard was the glue that held us all together and was loved beyond measure, we will miss him greatly. A Memorial Service to celebrate Bernard's life will be held on Sunday, January 3, 2016 at the Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 9998 Grant Street, Thornton, at 4:00PM. Funeral Services will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church on Monday, January 4, 2016 at 10:30AM with a reception to follow. Interment at Fort Logan following the reception.
