Bernice Dykes Brown, 90, of Parker, Co. passed away on July 14th. 2018.
She was the daughter of the late James W. Dykes and Carmeta Russell and was born in S. Charleston, WVa on October 5, 1927.
In addition to her parents, she was proceeded in death by a sister and brother and her beloved husband of 60 years, Fletcher Brown.
Bernice graduated from The Memorial Hospital school of nursing in Wilmington, DE in 1948. She practiced private duty nursing until returning to Duke University to obtain her BS in nursing when she married Fletcher Brown in 1952. Bernice was very active in her church, singing in the choir and serving as a deacon and elder.
They lived in Parkersburg, W.Va., Bound Brook, NJ.,Savannah, Ga., and Williamstown, W.Va., before retiring to Winter Haven, Fla. in 1989.
In 2012, they moved to Parker, Co to live closer to their daughter due to health issues.
She is survived by her sister, Kathy Wishart (Ed), Reno, NV, children Jim Brown, John Day, Or, David Brown, Lindenwold, NJ, Camille Brown (Marc Ruisi), Castle Rock, Co., Stepdaughter Eileen Rafuse (Ken), Manorville, NY along with four grandchildren, two great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held on July 24 at 11am at the Chester Cemetery in Chestertown, Md.
