Bernice E. Ginther

March 5, 1938 — October 1, 2015

Bernice, 77, of Arvada, Colorado, passed October 1, 2015. Bernice Elna, as she was born on March 5, 1938, came from a combination of family names. Her grandmother was Cora Bernice and her mother's sister was Elna, so she was named Elna Bernice. Her family called her Bernice so as not to confuse her with her aunt. As a child, Bernice developed interests in reading and piano playing, both of which she would continue throughout her life. As a youth, most memorably, an adventure on a run away horse caused her injuries that healed, but quelled her interest in horse riding. Bernice met her husband of 59 years, Verle Ginther in 1954, when her home was on his paper route. Soon after, they began dating and married in June 1956. Between 1957 and 1963, Bernice gave birth to three sons and one beautiful daughter. She was involved in many school activities and also taught piano, sold encyclopedias, and worked in various offices and stores after the kids were grown a bit. As an adult, Bernice never ceased her interest in learning, and was well read and had an extensive library. At the age of 40, Bernice and her husband were visiting Hawaii when she was stricken with what was then thought to be a stroke, and later diagnosed as multiple sclerosis. Bernice was to battle the debilitating progressions of this disease with bravery and humor, finally succumbing on October 1, 2015. Bernice is survived by her loving husband, Verle; loving mother, Adeline Benedict-Volp; sons, Randy, David (Terri), and Philip; daughter, Diane Jung; grandsons, Jeffrey Jung, Brian Jung, and Clinton Ginther; great grandchildren, Brianna and Tyson Ginther; sister in law, Julia Fouchey; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services honoring Bernice will be Wednesday, October 7, 2015, beginning at 10:30 AM, at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 7577 West 80th Avenue, in Arvada, Colorado 80003. Entombment follows at Crown Hill Cemetery.
