Bernice Arlove Supercynski, age 90, passed away in Aurora, Colorado on August 24, 2024. She was born in Ironwood, Michigan on March 5, 1934 to Gust and Lillian (Manninen) Kangas.
Bernice graduated from Luther L.Wright High School in Ironwood, Michigan in 1952. She worked at the Ironwood Pharmacy. She married the love of her life, 1st Lieutenant Florian A. Supercynski, on March 2, 1957 at Nellis Air Force Base Chapel in Las Vegas, Nevada. In Colorado, Bernice enjoyed working for JCPenny, helping customers in the shoe department.
Bernice always had a beautiful smile on her face. Anyone who was around Bernice instantly felt her genuine love and caring. She was a wonderful daughter, sibling, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She cherished her many friendships. Bernice volunteered at the school library and various school activities. Giving gifts at Christmas gave her pure joy. Bernice tended to, and cared for her beautiful garden and it was a special place for her. Puzzle building and reading were things she did often and enjoyed. Bernice’s character was a perfect example of the Finnish “SISU”.
Bernice was a long-time member of Queen of Peace Catholic Parish. She dedicated herself to helping others through the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Bernice helped the Marthas by providing food. She also made sandwiches for the Friends of St. Andrew. Bernice enjoyed participating in the Rosary group where she lived.
Bernice is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Florian; her children Gloria (Allen) Pladson, Nancy (Thomas) Wos, Thomas (Kim) Supercynski, David (Kerri) Supercynski, Steven (Chrissy) Supercynski; Siblings: Arla (Bill) Romo, Laurence (Diane) Kangas; 12 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, Gust and Lillian Kangas; Siblings: Vivian Katapol, Jane Cvengros, Joyce Hession, Deloris Stefanik, Marvin Kangas, Keith Kangas, Robert Kangas, Kenneth Kangas.
On September 13, 2024, there will be a Rosary at 9:00 a.m. and a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. followed by a luncheon at Queen of Peace Catholic Parish 13120 E. Kentucky Ave., Aurora, Colorado 80012. Private burial at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society at Queen of Peace Catholic Parish, Aurora, Colorado.
