Bernice K. Vandenberg

Bernice K. Vandenberg, 89, of Littleton, Colorado passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 15, 2018. She was born to Anna and John Ribar on November 21, 1928 in Denver, Colorado.

Bernice grew up in a close-knit family in Globeville, Colorado. She and her family enjoyed camping and fishing. During her childhood, she played the accordion and performed at Orpheum Theater among other places. She graduated from Annunciation Catholic High School in 1946. After high school she worked in banking and traveled with friends.

Bernice married Francis Vandenberg on January 8, 1955. In the early years of their marriage they lived in California and started a family. After their first three daughters were born they moved back to Colorado where their youngest daughter was born. Family meant everything to Bernice and she was proud to be a homemaker and one of her fondest accomplishments was raising her daughters.

After her daughters grew up she enjoyed traveling, doing ceramics and crafts, reading, and shopping. She was so excited when her first grandchild was born and loved to babysit and spoil him. Each new grandchild brought her so much joy, and she was happiest when she was spending time with her daughters and grandchildren.

Bernice was a devoted Catholic and religion was very important part of her life. She always put others needs before her own and would do anything to help family and friends. Her faith brought her much comfort as she got older and her health declined.

Bernice Vandenberg is survived by her husband Francis Vandenberg; her siblings Ruth Grommet and John Ribar; her daughters Sharon Vandenberg, Cindy Vandenberg, Linda Smith and Diane Skeen; her grandchildren Derrick and Tanner Smith, Kelsey and Lindsey Vandenberg, and Tyler and Korey Skeen.

A Rosary service and viewing will be held on Thursday, August 23, 2018. Viewing will begin at 5:00 pm and the Rosary at 6:00 pm at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 3101 S. Wadsworth Blvd., Lakewood, CO. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Christ on the Mountain (Church of Christ) Catholic Church, 13922 W. Utah Ave., Lakewood, CO. Reception to follow at St. Jude Catholic Church.
