Major Bernie Huhane, age 47, passed away on the evening of December 23, 2022, after a valiant fight against Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
Bernie was born on July 17, 1975 in Morgantown, West Virginia. He was a 1993 graduate of Geibel Catholic High School, in Connellsville, Pennsylvania. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from West Virginia Wesleyan College, Buckhannon, West Virginia in 1997. He later accomplished a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Waynesburg University in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania in 2001.
Bernie began his military career in 2004 at Maxwell Air Force Base Officer School, in Montgomery, Alabama, where he met the love of his life, Alisha Acker. Alisha and Bernie’s military career tours took them to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, San Francisco, California, Dallas, Texas and lastly Denver, Colorado.
Bernie was an avid outdoorsman and adventurist. He enjoyed snow skiing, kayaking, rock climbing, futsal, and soccer. He also loved spending time with Alisha and their two young sons Hayden and Jaxon. They often traveled together all over the world, he had a true zest for life. When home in Colorado, Bernie adored and enjoyed cuddling with his two rescue dogs and cat.
Bernie was a compassionate and dedicated emergency department and military flight nurse committed to serving and caring for others, and saving lives. The Huhane refrigerator was always decorated with sweet notes from patients and fellow nurses that he had helped care for in the hospital. Bernie served our country with pride and respect, as an Air Force Reserve Flight Nurse. He deployed to many countries over the years caring for our wounded U.S. military service men and women. He dedicated 19 and a half years to the Air Force and he was honored to serve his country.
Bernie is survived by his mother Deirdre Corcoran; father Pelenato (Bernie) Huhane and Pamela Huhane (step-mother); his wife Alisha Acker, sons Hayden (14), Jaxon (10), brother Patrick Huhane, sister Ana Huhane Pome'e, and loving uncles Joe and Michael Corcoran.
Family and friends are welcome to attend Bernie's memorial with full military honors on Friday, January 20, 2023 3:15pm at Fort Logan National Cemetery, in Denver, Colorado.
A Celebration of Life will be planned in the Spring of 2023, in Dallas Texas.
