Bernie D. Ruybal, 85, passed away February 11, 2016. A beloved husband, father, grandfather great grandfather and brother he is survived by the love of his life Alice Bustos. They were married for 62 years and had 9 children; Steve, Joseph(dec), Cherie(dec), Cheryl, Greg, Mark, Sharyn Kay, Jeff and Joseph II(dec). Bernie had 21 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren. Bernie was born in Alamosa CO on September 14 1930 to Daniel and Augustina Ruybal. He had one sister, Louisa, and four brothers; Daniel(dec), Rudy(dec), Roger(dec), and Benji. Bernie was a retired school teacher. He taught for thirty-five years in Elbert CO, Dove Creek CO, Sidney NE, and many schools throughout the Denver school system. He was a combat engineer with the Colorado Nation Guard and a veteran of the Korean War. He attained the rank of 1st SGT. Besides the love Bernie had for his family and friends he was an avid fan of Notre Dame football. He also loved to travel and see the sites of the world. At first he packed the family into a stationwagon, then a RV, and finally daughter Naval Captain Cherie Bare took Bernie and Alice on trips to Europe and various cruises. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 17, 2016, 5:30 â 7:00 PM at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 11150 E Dartmouth Avenue, Aurora. The Recitation of the Rosary will begin at 7:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, February 18, 2016, 10:00 AM at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 13120 E Kentucky Avenue, Aurora. He will be laid to rest at Fort Logan National Cemetery following his Army Honors ceremony at 1:30 PM. Donations in Bernie's memory, in lieu of flowers, are suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
