Bertha Schnabel Gottfried

September 26, 1918 — April 29, 2013

Bertha was the daughter of Jacob and Lydia (Newharth) Schnabel. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church until her death. Bertha was active as the church pianist and organist in several of her home churches throughout the years. She has a passion for growing beautiful flowers and large gardens, as well as crafting beautiful quilts. She was a very talented seamstress. Above all, she loved the Lord and cats. Bertha was a housewife, but worked along beside her husband in carpentry and farming. You could often see her mudding drywall, plowing the fields or nursing a sick cat. Bertha met William in California and they were married on March 18, 1940 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to North Dakota. Their marriage was blessed by 66 years, five children, nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Bertha was preceded in death by her husband, William, and three children, Bernie Lee, Ronald Wm, and Lavonne Marie; and all four siblings, Martha, Reinhold, Vera, and Clara. Bertha is survived by two daughters, Donna Hibberd of Milo, Missouri and Karen Schmidt of Littleton, Colorado. A Visitation will take place on Thursday, May 16, 2013 from 1:00pm - 2:00pm followed by a Funeral Service at 2:00pm both at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 5303 East County Line Road (one block west of South Holly Street) in Centennial.
