Bertha C. Moreno

Después de una larga y fructífera existencia, descansó en paz el 14 de diciembre de 2023 a los 89 años quien en vida fue Bertha Cecilia Vargas de Moreno.  La menor de diez hermanos, creció en una finca familiar en su natal Colombia, rodeada por la naturaleza y sus queridos animales, lo que la hizo independiente, juguetona y creativa.  Cuando el conflicto armado alcanzó a su familia y cobró la vida de su padre, Bertha - todavía pequeña - y su madre lograron escapar y llegaron a Bogotá.  Siguió creciendo - siempre con fortaleza y entusiasmo - en medio de los retos de la ciudad, y eventualmente inició su vida como abnegada esposa y madre.  Buscando ofrecer nuevas oportunidades a sus pequeños hijos, decidió con su esposo Alfonso tomar el riesgo y empezar una nueva vida en un país desconocido.  Una cultura ajena, un nuevo idioma y un clima drásticamente diferente al que conocía implicaron muchos desafíos, que superó con el propósito de ver a sus hijos progresar.  Su espíritu siempre cálido, su mente ágil y su sentido del humor cobijaron siempre a su familia y se ganaron el corazón de todos quienes llegaron a conocerla.

La precedieron en su muerte su esposo Alfonso y su hija Bertha, con quienes ahora comparte el descanso eterno.  La sobreviven y recuerdan con amor y gratitud sus hijos César y Milton, sus nietos Marco y Hanaé, así como sus demás familiares y amigos.  Los servicios funerarios se llevaron a cabo con la familia inmediata.

Bertha Moreno, age 89, died peacefully on 14 December 2023 after a long and fruitful life.  The youngest of ten children, she grew up on a family farm in her native Colombia, surrounded by nature and her beloved animals, which made her independent, playful and creative.  When the armed conflict reached her family and claimed the life of her father, Bertha - still very young - and her mother managed to escape and sought refuge in the capital city of Bogota.  She became an adult in the midst of the challenges presented by the big city, always displaying strength and enthusiasm, and subsequently became a devoted wife and mother.  Seeking to offer new opportunities to their young children, she and her husband Alfonso decided to start a new life in the United States.  She overcame the many challenges presented by a drastically different culture, language and weather in order to see her children flourish.  Her warm demeanor, bright mind and good sense of humor always nourished her family and won the hearts of all who came to know her.

She was preceded in death by her husband Alfonso and her daughter Bertha.  She is survived and remembered with love and gratitude by her children César and Milton, her grandchildren Marco and Hanaé, as well as many other family members and friends.  Funeral services were held privately for the immediate family.
